Sengan-en, Shoko Shuseikan
Sengan-en Garden is the villa of the Shimazu family, the feudal lord of Satsuma, built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa, the 19th generation of the Shimazu family.
The magnificent garden, with Sakurajima in front of it as a hill and Kinko Bay as a pond, is unparalleled in scale among the many daimyo's gardens.
The open space with seasonal flowers and greenery allows visitors to enjoy a special moment surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
(In 2015, the entire garden was registered as a World Heritage Site as a component of the Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution.)
