Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese decorative cord used for gifts and celebratory occasions. This centuries-old craft involves tying thin cords into various shapes and carries the heartfelt meaning of "connecting people" and "bringing good relationships together."
In this experience, you will learn one of the most representative Mizuhiki knots, the Awaji Knot.
Using delicate and elegant cords, you will carefully create each knot by hand. Why not experience this beautiful Japanese tradition, which has been passed down through generations to decorate gifts and special occasions, and create a memorable souvenir from your trip to Hakata?
The experience takes place at the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, where visitors can explore the traditional lifestyle and culture of Hakata.
After learning about Mizuhiki, you will practice the basic Awaji Knot and then combine your favorite Mizuhiki colors with a strap base to create a one-of-a-kind Mizuhiki strap that is uniquely yours.
Even beginners can participate with confidence, as practice cords are provided before making the final piece. Of course, you can take your completed work home with you.
